Adelaide Heinen Youngblood passed away at her home in Houston on July 20, 2009 at the age of 96.

Known as Adie, she was born at the Heinen house on Broadway in Comfort in 1913, the daughter of Hubert and Else Strohacker Heinen. Adie grew up in Comfort, and graduated from Comfort High School in 1931.

After beginning at the University of Texas at Austin, Adie returned to Comfort in 1934 to take over classes at the Comfort School when her father's voice failed. She graduated from UT with a business degree and went to work at the Federal Land Bank in Houston.

She married Robert Youngblood in 1949, with whom she had two sons, Robert and Thomas. Later in life she worked as an administrator at Rice University.

Adie spoke often of her happy times growing up in Comfort. She retained her connection with Comfort and her childhood friendships with the Faltins and other families her entire life. She regaled her family with stories of swimming in Cypress Creek, her love of dancing, climbing on the roof of the Heinen house, and making laundry soap over a fire in the shed behind the home. Adie was a font of family history about the Heinen, Stieler and Strohacker relations. Recently, she donated many old photos of early Comfort and family and friends to the Comfort Heritage Foundation.

Adie was a dear, sweet person, always interested in others, and the hub of family news and goings-on. Many times, she took on the role of tireless caregiver, for her parents, her brother Erwin, and her son, Tommy. She was unfailingly kind and cheerful and greeted company with a warm smile and a huge breakfast buffet.

Adie was preceded in death by her husband Robert Youngblood Sr., son Thomas Youngblood and brother Erwin Heinen. She is survived by her son Robert Youngblood Jr., three generations of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who all adored her.
