Christiana was the daughter of a Mr. Jordan & Martha (birth name unknown). What happened to her father is not known, but when she was almost 2 years old her mother, Martha, married William Powell and he raised Christiana as his daughter and listed her as an heir in his will. She most likely used the Powell name but in the registry of her marriage in Baltimore County, Maryland on 28 Mar 1810 she was married under the name of Jordan. George and Christiana started their married life in Maryland, but by 1820 they had moved their family to Knox County, Ohio. Together they had ten children: Thomas, Richard, Elizabeth (Popham), Sarah "Sally" (Barnes), Margaret (Boling), John, Henry, Caleb, Christiana (Magers), and Daniel.
