After Illness
Roswell Henry Stevens, 82, a life-long resident of Morgan, died at an Ogden hospital, Wednesday, at 6:30 a.m., after a lingering illness of more than three months.
He was born in Enterprise on October 10, 1864, a son of Roswell and Mary Ann Peterson Stevens. His parents were among the first pioneers to make a permanent settlement in this valley.
In March of 1892, he married Sarah Jane Hemming in the Logan L. D. S. temple She died April 22, 1923.
Mr. Stevens operated a furniture store in the early 1900's and was manager of the Morgan Hotel (now the Vallis) at the time of the San Francisco earthquake. He followed the carpentry trade for many years, being especially interested in fine cabinet making.
He is survived by two sons, William Stevens of Morgan and Ralph H. Stevens of Ogden, and three daughters, Harriet Stevens of Morgan, Mrs. John T. Howard of Smithfield, and Mrs. J. D. Chapman of Bussey, Iowa. Twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive him, besides a brother George F. Stevens of Croydon and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Powell of Coalville; Mrs. Jane Foote of Morgan and Mrs. Lilly May Rock of Blackfoot, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 o'clock in Morgan stake tabernacle, under the direction of Bp. F. C. Jensen of the Morgan ward. Friends may call at the home of Mrs. Jane Foote Friday afternoon and evening and until time of service Saturday.
