Harold Rose, 90, of Black Rock went to be with the Lord at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009.

Harold is survived by his wife, Wanda of the home; their children, Gary Rose and wife Joyce of Walnut Ridge, Gary Austin and wife Dean of Plano, Texas, and Donna Austin, currently residing in the family home at Black Rock; six grandchildren, Steve Rose (Tracy) of Greenbrier, Dina Rose Hufstedler of Walnut Ridge, DeAnna Brown (Don) of Atoka, Tenn., Jeff Austin (Michele) of Plano, Texas, Christopher Weir of Topanga, Calif., and Robbye Schroeder (Scott) of Topanga; and 11 great-grandchildren, Erin Bell, Ashley (Caleb) Taylor, Adam Hufstedler, Christie Bell, Heather Rose, Andy Hayes, Lauren Rose, Clay Hufstedler, Abby Austin, Peter Weir and Aidan Austin.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Rose and Maudie Rose Tyre; one sister, Alice Marie Anderson; one brother, P.K. Rose; and a great-great-grandson, Parker Taylor.

Harold's entrepreneurial spirit began as a little boy growing up near O'Kean, where he traded his little red Western Flyer wagon for baby chicks in order to sell the chickens.

Through the years he was best known as a cattleman who owned the Commission Co. at the Jonesboro Stockyards. Later, he joined his father and brother in the family implement business, Rose Implement Co., at Walnut Ridge.

After the Allis-Chalmers dealership was sold, Harold went into retirement, overseeing his rice and soybean farm and enjoying his love of vegetable, fruit tree and flower gardening. However, Harold was not suited for the laid-back years of retirement. Harold started a small tire business known as The Tire Shop in downtown Black Rock. He continued to work in that business until his health declined.

Throughout the years, in all businesses, he was known as a man of integrity. He will be missed by so many who knew him well and loved the kind and gentle man he was.

Harold absolutely loved Sunday school and served as Sunday school superintendent for more than 40 years combined. His church, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Annieville, honored him with an engraved bronze plaque for his outstanding commitment to service.

Services will be under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday with Jerry Clements officiating and Wayne Bryant assisting. Burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers pre-selected by Harold Rose are Jerry Ray Foley, Rickey Goff, Bryan Spence, Dave Creed, Coy Slusser, Warren Ellis, L.B. Aaron and Ronnie "Frog" Light.

Because of his love for Sunday school, he requested that all Sunday school teachers from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church act as honorary pallbearers.

Lasting memorials may be sent to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock or St. Bernards Hospice in Jonesboro
