She was born April 26, 1923, in Union City, daughter of the late Gerald M. Woosley and Mary (Jonakin) Woosley. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
A homemaker, she was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by her husband, James Hagood "Sammy" Sams Sr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Cynthia Sams and Jim Sams Jr. and Linda; three nieces, Cynthia Powel, Diane Wise and Julia Sams-Holleman; seven nephews, Lt. Gen. John B. Sams, William L. Sams, B.B. Sams Jr., Alan B. Sams, Bill Sams, Thomas Legare and William E. Legare; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bonum B. and Vee Sams.
