Edgar James Leach Sr., 80, of 605 St. Lawrence Ave., long time prominent local businessman and banker was an engineer with Bryant Engineering Co., Detroit, Mich., and later vice president and production manager for the Butler, Pa., plant of the Austin Auto Manufacturing Corp. of England. He came to Janesville and was associated in an executive position with the old Samson Tractor Co. He founded the Leach-Wood Co. here and was the inventor of the thermostat device manufactured by the firm. Later he was an officer and president of Northern Conveyor
Co. prior to its- sale several years ago. He had been a director of 1st National Bank of Janesville the past 25 years and its present director emeritus. He also was
president and treasurer of the Bostwick Realty. Co. and Leach Janesville, Inc. Born in Sommerville, Tennessee the son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Leach, he was a veteran of World War I, serving as a 1st lieutenant in the Field Artillery. He was married in Janesville June 28, 1927, to Harriet Carle. They separated in the 1940's. He was formerly a partner with his son in
a farm operation east of the city until selling his interest to the son. Surviving are his wife; a son; a daughter; nine grandchildren; a brother; and two sisters
