GULFPORT --- Rev. M. Ross Carter, age 69 and a resident of Gulfport, died on Saturday, July 8, 2000, in Gulfport.

The Forrest County native was married for 43 years and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, Class of 1955. He studied at the University of Maine, Oklahoma, Florida and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. After being ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church, he served churches in Wayne, Jackson and Harrison counties. He was instrumental in establishing Feed My Sheep at Burton Memorial United Methodist Church. He conducted crusades in the United States and South America and has led many souls to Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Kitty Carter; twin brother Roger and a brother, Burl Carter; two sisters, Annie Margaret Hartfield and Faye Morse.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Carter of Gulfport; two daughters and their husbands, Diana Carter Grant and Rev. Bill Grant of Mobile, Alabama, Melody Carter Griffith and Eric Griffith of Gulfport; a son and his wife, Rev. Scott Carter and Sue Ellen Price Carter of Biloxi; three brothers, J.A.P. Carter Jr. and A.D. Carter, both of McLaurin, Ray Carter of Biloxi; a brother-in-law, A.W. Hartfield of Irvington, Alabama; sister, Kitty Blanche Johnson of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Carter and Maxie Carter, both of McLaurin; grandchildren, Mallory and Olivia Carter of Biloxi, Molly Grant of Mobile, Carter and Allison Griffith and Christian Griffith of Gulfport.

Visitation was held Sunday evening, July 9, 2000, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, U.S. 49 North. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday from the McLaurin United Methodist Church where friends may also call after 10 a.m. on Monday at the church. Burial will follow in the McLaurin Cemetery.

The family prefers contributions to The Poly Cystic Kidney Foundation, 4901 Main Street, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64112.
