Montpelier News Examiner September 4, 2002

Doyle Ervin Nelson, 97, of Paris, died in Montpelier on August 29 of natural causes. He was born November 28, 1904 in Bloomington to Adelbert and Agnes Nelson. When he was 2 or 3 years old his family moved to Driggs for about five years. He attended schools in Driggs and Bloomington.


He married Maida Thornock on June 4, 1925 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had four boys and one girl, Paul, Dean, Harold, Kyle and Margean. HIs wife and son, Dean preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ronald, Lowell (Bish), Verl and two sisters, Twilla and Opal.


Doyle was a hard worker and spent a lot of time helping farmers put up hay and care for cattle. He worked on the railroad on the section as well as at the Georgetown phosphate plant. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He just loved the outdoors. In his later years he enjoyed traveling with family and on the senior citizen bus. He was active in the LDS church. He held positions in the Sunday School, Mutual and the Priesthood. He had also been Bloomington Ward Clerk. He had a wonderful memory, a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed.


He leaves behind his brother, Theo and sisters, Thorma Headlee and Verma Lindsay. His surviving children are Paul (Venita), Harold (Sue), Kyle (Janet) and Margean Russell; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held September 3 at the Paris Stake Center. Burial is in the Bloomington Cemetery with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.
