He then went to work in a dry goods store near St. Paul's Cathedral in London . In 1860 he heard the missionaries and accepted their message. He married Mary Ann the following year and, several days later, he sailed for America , along with his mother, and the Morrell family. Joshua 's father remained behind until he could obtain enough funds for his own passage. After a difficult trip across the plains, they arrived in the Valley. Mary Ann cooked for the group to help pay her way. Joshua worked in a molasses mill the first winter. The next spring they moved to Cache Valley , where they bought a lot near the old Logan Depot. His father joined them there. In 1865 , Joshua was called to help settle the Bear Lake country . They settled in Bloomington . Joshua was engaged in the mercantile business, farmed his land, and helped in a lumber business. He was gifted in dramatics and for many years was head of a group that presented a three-act drama every two weeks. He and Mary Ann had beautiful voices and sang in a quartet. They spent much time entertaining others. He remarried after Mary Ann 's death. He remained active in the church and was an active member of the community all his life.
