Son of George W. & Rebecca SHADRICK Allen; husband of Lucinda "Lucy" GARLAND Allen.

Huntsville Democrat, July 1903:
"W. R. Allen, an old and respected citizen living near Aurora in this county, committed suicide on Thursday of last week by hanging himself. He was alone in the house, having sent his wife out to the garden and securing a small rope, threw it over a joist in the center of the room and when his wife returned she found him hanging by the neck dead. No cause is known why he committed the rash deed. About a year ago he made a visit to relatives back east and while o his way home jumped or fell from a moving train and injured his head and has not appeared to be exactly right since. It is thought that he was slightly unbalanced at times and while suffering from despondency or melancholy ended his life. The family and relatives have our most sincere sympathy."

From The Rogers Democrat, 8 July 1903, issue reprinted from Huntsville Republican:
“Russ Allen - an old citizen hung himself from a joist in his house 6 miles South of Huntsville. His boys were huckleberry hunting and he persuaded his wife and girls to go to the garden a distance from the house. He barred the doors and pulled down the shades. He was in poor health.”
