Raymond Joseph Strack Jr., Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Beech Grove to Alberta Rebentisch Strack and Raymond J. Strack Sr. Ray worked for Eli Lilly and Co. for more than 40 years in the packaging quality control department. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 3660, where he sang in the men's choral group, and the Bishop Chatard Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Ray also was active in politics, serving as a Democratic precinct committee member in Perry Township.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Clare Strack; and three brothers, Theodore J. "Ted," Joseph C. and Leo Strack.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marge Markham Strack; a daughter, Sue (Geoff) Vargo; two sons, Steve (Mary Ellen) and Ray (Anita) Strack; a sister, Theresa M. Strack; two brothers, John E. and Frank Strack; and six grandchildren, Andy, Theresa, Chris, Dan, Evan and Eva.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at St. Barnabas Church, 8300 Rahke Road, Indianapolis. Morning prayers will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. today at Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home, 6107 East St., Indianapolis. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
