Civil War Member; Killed at Battle of Gettysburg PA while gallantly charging upon the rebels July 3 1863, a member of Co L, 14th Reg Vt Vols, AE24 years. I have for my Country fallen.
Note from Robert Viguers; See book 'Killed in Action' by Gregory A Coco for interesting account of this man's service.

I tried two days to get the saying on north face but still can not read it all. This is my best guess at the saying.
"My Country called and I bade adieu, I had (fallen?) to circles once so bright, but duty called me hence away, to battle for the right, I died upon the battlefield beneath the Stars & Stripes, I yielded up my precious life to gain our Country's rights"
