Joseph Melvuren WILLEY was born February 8, 1862, in Jasper County, Indiana, to John and Delphina WILLEY. In 1863, he came with his mother to Caldwell County, Missouri, settling near Braymer, where he was married in 1879 to Miss Hattie PHILLIPS. Eleven children were born to this union, eight of whom survive. The living children are: Maybell, John, Myrtle, Delphie, Grace, Albert, Vivian and Wesley.
Mr. WILLEY and his family moved to Hammonds, Oklahoma, in 1895. Mrs. WILLEY died in 1899. The deceased later moved to Foss, Oklahoma, where he was engaged in the produce and telephone business. He came to this county in 1909, and became one of Ochiltree County’s most prosperous and successful farmers. In 1907, two years before he moved to this country, Mr. WILLEY was united in marriage with Miss Mamie CHURCH, who survives him.
Mr. WILLEY’s health failed him about three years ago. He purchased a home in this city about two years ago, and has resided here until the past six months when he has been in the south for the benefit of his health. The end came at Corpus Christi on Thursday, January 12. The remains being taken to Bridgeport, Oklahoma, for burial. Surviving relatives in this community are two daughters, Mrs. J. A. RUSSELL and Mrs. Jesse WAGNON, and two sons, Wesley and John WILLEY, and a brother, E. J. WILLEY.
