Lengthy Illness Proves Fatal to City Policeman
Gordon E. Watters, 34, of 222 Cherry Ave., a member of the city police department as a patrolman since 1963, died at 11:20 a.m. yesterday in Mercy Hospital after an extended illness. He was born Oct. 19, 1930, a son of Charles and Florence ( Hudson) Watters and on June 2, 1956 , in the Fairview Methodist Church married Nancy Love. Surviving are his wife, three children, Gordon Jr., Kimberlee Lee, and Michele Marie, at the home; his parents, of the city; three brothers and a sister, C. Blair and William E. of the city, Milton R. of Juniata Gap and Mrs. Alice Hartzer of Marion, Ohio. He was a member of the Fairview Methodist Church, Mountain City Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Juniata V.F.W., as a veteran of service in the Navy from 1950 to 1954 in the Korean Conflict. A graduate of Altoona High School in 1949, he formerly had been employed by the Dibert Radio Company in the city and had completed a course in electronic at the Altoona Campus in 1953. Friends will be received in the Axe Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today.
