Charles was a twin of Alexander Keith Brown. He was listed in various census as a farmer and also a shop keeper. Tragically, in Rogersville, TN (Hawkins Co.) 1880, Charles and his clerk, James Heck/Hack were asleep after finishing the closing of the Brown family business of Marble Hall when Joseph Harris entered the room, killed them with an ax and set the beds on fire. The motive was robbery as Charles had a large sum of money at the time. J. Harris was tried and sentenced by Judge N.T. Hacker to be hanged April 1, 1881. An appeal to the Supreme Court resulted in the confirmation of the decision of the lower Court and the day set for his execution was November 25, 1881. He was hung by a rope in Rogersville, TN.

Headstone located behind Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church. This section is very overgrown. Road to cemetery named Jesus Church Rd. on gps but Quarryville Rd is on street sign.
