The sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Frank Basler on Sunday evening came as a shock to members of her family and cast deep sorrow upon the community. Mrs. Basler had apparently been enjoying good health on Sunday morning and attended the services at St. Mary’s church, as was her usual custom, but in the afternoon near supper time complained of feeling ill and did not eat supper.
About 7:00 o’clock she was seized with a heart stroke and died immediately before members of the family realized her condition.

The funeral was held on Thursday from St. Mary’s church in this city, Rev. Fr. L. N. Thelen officiating at Requiem Mass with interment in St. Mary’s cemetery. The body was carried to its last resting place by five grandsons, Joseph, John, George and Arnold Kopf, and Frank Basler and one nephew, Jacob Veit, Jr.

Mrs. Frank Basler, nee Margaret Koehler, was born in Mequon, Ozaukee county, on April 23, 1852, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Koehler. She grew to young womanhood in her native town and on Sept. 12, 1872 was united in marriage to Frank Basler at Mequon and for several years after marriage they made their home on a farm in that town. About thirty-three years ago they came to Calumet County, settling on a farm in Chilton town on the Chilton-Hilbert road now owned by Joseph Kopf. They lived on this farm about seventeen years and then moved to this city where they have since resided.

Mrs. Basler was the mother of seven children all of whom are living, five girls and two boys. Their names are Frank of Sherwood, John F. of this city, Mrs. Anton Kopf of Chilton town; Mrs. Wm. Falk of Woodville, Mrs. George Bruckner of this city, Mrs. Henry Dorn of New Holstein and Mrs. John C. Stewart of Vallejo, Calif. About two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Basler celebrated their golden wedding anniversary all of their children being there to assist in the happy event.

Mrs. Basler was a devout Christian woman and a loving wife and mother. She left nothing undone to assure the comfort of her husband and family and her sudden passing is a sad blow to them. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and leaves a great many friends in this city and community who learn with regret of her untimely passing.
