Witty, sweet, gracious, and loving to the end, Dorothy Marjorie Theiss, 99, went to heaven with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 11, 2013 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Funny River Community Lutheran Church in Funny River, Alaska. Pastor George Rakos will officiate. Dorothy's ashes will be laid to rest with her husband Edwin at the Capay Cemetery in Esparto, CA at a later date.

Dorothy Marjorie (Weissel) Theiss was born in San Francisco, California on April 28, 1914 to Adam and Emma (Schmidt) Weissel. She was baptized at her family church in Berkeley. Dorothy had fond memories of her childhood and young adulthood at 2900 Wheeler Street with her brothers Lorenz and Ford and her sister Helen.

Dorothy met the handsome and charming Edwin Theiss on a blind date, and they were married at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland on September 24, 1938. They raised their daughters Carolyn and Joanne in Oakland where they were faithful members of Zion Lutheran Church. They retired to Rumsey in 1981 where they built a home and planted an almond orchard. Dorothy stayed on the ranch after Ed's passing, and remained active in the life of the community for more than thirty years.

Dorothy was a strong Christian. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a loyal friend. Dorothy was adventurous, witty, hardworking, and fiercely independent. Her daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Tom and her dear friend Linda made it possible for her to enjoy the independence of living in her own home until the age of 99. After her birthday, she took one last adventurous trip to Alaska to live her final days in her second home with her daughter and son-in-law, George and Carolyn. She leaves a legacy of a life lived by faith, and her testimony points to the eternal promises of Jesus.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved family, daughters, Carolyn and Joanne; sons-in-law, George and Tom; granddaughters, Jahna and Karen; grandson-in-law, Joe; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Arrangements were cared for by the Anchorage Funeral Home & Crematory. Please visit Dorothy's obituary and online guestbook at www.AlaskanFuneral.com
