Betty Ruth Tinny Gunter, 85, of St. Petersburg, Florida, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 19, 2009. Betty was born in Tampa, moved to Ozona, Florida in 1926 from Pompano Beach and was a 1941 graduate of Tarpon Springs High School. She moved to St. Petersburg in 1942 and attended Bixby Business College. She was a clerk typist at the War Department and Headquarters of the Army Air Force in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C from 1942-1945 and the Headquarters of the Third Air Force in Tampa 1945-1946. She then worked at the Veterans Administration at the Don Cesar in St. Petersburg Beach from 1946-1948 and was a Service Representative for the Social Security Administration from 1962 until retirement in 1973. Betty was a telephone receptionist at the E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home from 1993-2000. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 17. She was a 60 year member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church where she was a former nursery worker, children's choir mother and a member of the King's Daughters Sunday School Class.

Betty is survived by 1 daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" (Bill) Morrison of Seminole; twin sons, Dean (Ellie) Gunter of Seminole, Dale (Dolly) Gunter of St. Petersburg; 1 brother, Donald (Jeri) Tinny of Clearwater; 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Earnest W. "Ernie," 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

The family will receive friends 4 to 7 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home 4100-16th St. No. Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday at the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church 4901-5th Ave. No. with Dr. Mike Ramage and Dr. Mike Wetzel officiating. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
