Lulu Bessie Irish was born at Springville, Linn County, Iowa to Israel Mason and Alice Marian Irish on March 12, 1888. She grew to womanhood in this vicinity, becoming a member of the Prairie Chapel Methodist Church at the age of sixteen.
On July 5, 1907, she and Carl Wesley Schliemann were joined in marriage at Marion, Iowa, where they operated a dairy business. In the spring of 1909 they moved to a farm near Hartford and continued farming in this locality until 1937, when they retired. To this union nine children were born, all surviving.
Mrs. Schliemann became a member of the Hartford Methodist Church in 1921 and reared her children in this faith. She was also a Woman's Society of Christian Service member.
After a month's illness she passed away on January 31, 1960, at Sioux Valley Hospital. Left to mourn her passing are the widower: Mrs. Philip (Iva Della) Huse, Mrs. George (Ferne Inda) Phillips, Carl Leonard Schliemann of Hartford: Mrs. Violet Mae Duimstra of Colton; Mrs. Howard (Helen Opal) Rhodes of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Earl (Hazel Alice) Eggers of Brandon; Malcolm Wesley Schliemann, Mrs. Earl (Gertrude Marian) Westendorf and Mrs. Carroll (Hope Marie) Anderson of Sioux Falls; thirty five grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Lydia Dean of of Hartford; and brother, Joel Irish of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; also a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Mrs. Schliemann was laid to rest in the Hartford Community Cemetery.
