Thomas Wesley Roberds was educated in the schools of Highland County and taught school for several years in order to obtain sufficient funds for medical school. He first practiced in Sardinia, Ohio but was afraid that his son would get on the railroad tracks and moved his practice to Belfast. Dr. Roberds practiced in Highland and Adams Counties for over sixty years. During his early years as a physician he made house calls by horse and buggy, charging only 25 cents for the visit. Highland Pioneer Sketches and Family Genealogies says "Today, when a Belfast physician and surgeon is mentioned, Dr. Roberds is the best remembered". Dr Roberds died December 18, 1952 and was preceded by his wife, Nannie, on October 23, 1938.
