Ronald "Ronnie" C Barnes, 91, passed away August 3, 2021, at the Lewistown, Ohio, home he shared with his wife, Gloria (Myers), who preceded him in death in 2010. Ronnie was born to Fermon and Anna (Carter) Barnes on September 9, 1929, and was the little brother to sister, Nevlyn, and brother, Nelson. Ronnie and Gloria were married following their high school graduation in 1947, after being a couple on and off since the day Ronnie kissed Gloria and she tattled on him in the 1st grade. After a brief time living in Florida, they moved into the Lewistown home where they raised five daughters. Ronnie financially provided for his family through years of dedication working as an accountant at Westinghouse, in both Bellefontaine and Lima. He also spent many hours tending to the apple trees on the family property, also known as Myers Orchard.
Ronnie and Gloria made a choice to become Christians not long after marrying. They and their children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren are blessed because of the love Ronnie and Gloria had for each other and their Lord. Ronnie literally helped build the Indian Lake Northside Church of the Nazarene and was faithful in serving that church in many roles over 70+ years, but most importantly as a Sunday School teacher, church bus driver and mentor.
In addition to his parents and Gloria, Ronnie was also preceded in death by his sister and a daughter, Cindy (Floyd) Nease.
He is survived by his brother, Nelson Barnes of Lakeview, Ohio; his daughters, Ronoyce (Gene) Grate of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Becky Stevens of Lewistown, Ohio, Cheri (Steve) Nease of Theodosia, Missouri, and Mandi Barnes of Ada, Ohio; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that live all over the United States.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 PM, Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, Ohio, and Monday from 10-11 AM at church.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, August 9, 2021, at Indian Lake Northside Church of the Nazarene, 13699 SR 235 N, Lakeview, Ohio with Ronnie's son-in-law, Rev. Gene Grate, officiating. Burial is in Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Indian Lake Northside Church of the Nazarene.
Arrangements are in the care of Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Condolences may be expressed at shoffstallfuneralhome.com.
