Jesse Joseph Jerome Shelton died when my grandfather, Clyde Oklan Shelton was 3 mo old (late Dec 1893 or Jan 1894) . The story that Grandma Reeves (Hannah Elizabeth "Bettie" Shelton Reeves) told as to the cause of his death, was that Grandpa Joe (Jesse Joseph Jerome) Shelton went to Pulaski to have a tooth pulled. The tooth had abscessed and he had to have relief from extreme pain. Went by wagon in rainy weather. When the tooth was extracted he returned home via his wagon. Grandma said it was so cold the rain turned to sleet and when he got home his slicker was frozen to the wagon seat. He had to extort himself from the coat before he could get out of the wagon seat and onto the ground to come in the house. He developed pneumonia as a result to exposure dying about a week later.
