Bonnie Mary Ewing, 90, of Woodway, Texas, passed away Aug. 3, 2009. Services will be 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 7, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Shelton Markham officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 5, with the family receiving visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bonnie Mary was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Ellen Elizabeth (Markwick) and John McPherson Walsh. On Nov. 12, 1940, she married the love of her life, Newton Campbell Ewing Jr. She graduated from Texas State College for Women with a teaching degree and taught her first year in Downsville. After her daughter started school, Bonnie went back to teaching at McGregor Elementary for 18 years. As is many times the case, this teacher made such an impact on the lives she taught until she was still in touch with one of her student's from 1940! One of the nurses that cared for her turned out to be one of her former 3rd grade students who was pleased to show her what she had done with her life. After her husband died in December of 1987, Bonnie met some people in her aerobics class and began clogging. She was the oldest clogger in the state of Texas. She was also a charter member of Daughters of the Nile.

Bonnie and her husband were founding members of North Waco Baptist Church although she held membership at Western Heights Baptist Church at the time of her death.

Preceding her in death were her husband, "Cam"; and sisters, Florence DuPriest, Sidney White and Mildred Laird.

Left behind to cherish her memory are daughter, Linda Leslie and husband, James L., of Woodway; grandchildren, Dominic Abeyta, Bonnie Lynn Abeyta, James Michael Leslie and Paula Jo Leslie; great-grandchildren, Annie Eileen Leslie, Jamie Michelle Leslie, Jessica Jo Leslie, Abbigail Rose Leslie, Nicholas Leon Jones, Anthony Michael Jones and Jaeden Michael Abeyta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
