Born April 6, 1933, He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was baptized and served as an altar server in his youth. He attended local schools and graduated from Barstow Union High School in 1953. While in high school he was active in school sports and in the ROTC. He also worked for Santa Fe Railroad while still in school. Upon graduating from high school Albert enter military service serving in the Army. During his tour of duty, he served in Germany where he received the Army Occupation Medal. In addition he received the National Defense Service Medal. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from military service, Albert returned to Barstow where he continued his employment with Santa Fe Railroad where he was employed for over 40 years.
In October of 1962 Albert married Juanita Gonzalez and made their home in Barstow. Albert remained employed with Santa Fe Railroad working as an electrician for over 40 years. He was also active in the local railroad union where he assisted with administrative duties. He enjoyed working around his home in particular having a garden where he grew his tomatoes and chilies. He enjoyed gathering with family and friends and was fond of listening to music, especially Mariachi music.
Albert is survived by his wife, Juanita, of 46 years; and two children, Rev. Alberto Jose Borruel from Austin, Texas and Patricia Rodriquez, husband Agustin and three grandchildren, Ariel, Josue and Abel. He is also survived by his sister, Paulina Borruel; brothers, Andres and his wife, Shirley, Fidel and his wife, Elsie, Herman, and John all from Barstow.
Albert in preceded in death by his parents, Jose Guadalupe and Maria Constancia Borruel; brothers, Nicho and Guadalupe; two sisters, Elpidia Salazar, Nellie Perez; his Godson, Jeffrey Borruel; and sister-in-law, Angelina Borruel.
Services will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Viewing will be Tuesday July 7, 2009 from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a Vigil service and rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday July 8, 2009 at 10 a.m. Interment will take place immediately following at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
