David Michael Tillery departed this world on March 10, 1998 in Oklahoma City. He was born September 28, 1938 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma and grew up in Allen, Oklahoma, graduating from high school in 1956.

Mike was a member of the National Guard for 8 years and retired from Homeland April 1995 after 36 years service. He was a faithful member of the Harrah Church of Christ and had a great love for his family, friends and his church family.

He was nicknamed the Gentle Giant and was touched to tears by the birth of his granddaughter, Chazten. Mike was patriotic to the USA and the state of Oklahoma and was a loyal fan of the OU Sooners. He loved to travel.

Mike and Carolyn fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, making several trips to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, visiting and providing love and support to other patients as long as he was able. He would advise young people and adults to avoid smoking.

He is survived by his best friend and wife of 39 years, Carolyn of Harrah, Oklahoma; children Kim and Leon Ashford of Harrah, Stacey Jenkins and Tony Shook of Yukon, Oklahoma and Brett Tillery of the home; precious granddaughters, Chazten Jenkins and Karol Ann Shook of Yukon, Oklahoma; sister and brother, Willa Zoe Grisham of Liberal, Kansas and Jerry Tillery of Allen, Oklahoma; loving mother-in-law, Edna Cooper of Holdenville, Oklahoma; brother and sister in law, Jack and Lawanna Cooper of Moore, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Becky Mauldin of Holdenville, Oklahoma and sister and brother-in-law Jo and Wayne Bailey of Houston, Texas. He loved his brothers in law as blood brothers. Special aunts, Christine Hughes of Allen, Oklahoma and Eunice Tillery of Holdenville, Oklahoma; other uncles, aunts, five nephews, three nieces, many cousins, his Christian family, friends and neighbors; special friends, Howard and Kay Rogers of Harrah and Glen and Mary James of Paoli, Oklahoma.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Obie Tillery of Allen, Oklahoma.

The family requests memorial donations to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Drive, Houston, Texas 77030 or to Hospitality Apartments, 7219 Cecil Street, Houston, Texas 77030.

Funeral services 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Harrah Church of Christ with burial in Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah. Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah, Oklahoma.
