Wanda May Millican was born in Alpena, South Dakota to William and Katherine [Learn] Milliken. The family moved to Huron, where she met her future husband while still in High School.
Due to her fiancé's burst appendix, their wedding was held in a hospital room with Wanda on one side of the bed, and the minister on the other officiating the wedding ceremony. It was not postponed.
They lost their first baby girl soon after birth due to heart problems. They buried her near her Grandfather, and a rose bush was put over the grave instead of a stone. Then they had 3 more healthy girls. At age 42, Wanda went to the Dr., and was told she had a tumor. A few months later, that "tumor" turned out to be a baby boy much to the delight of the whole family.
At age 58, Wanda had surgery for a bleeding ulcer. She passed away due to an aneurysm the next day.
