Ethel R. Bair, 95, of Hanover, passed peacefully Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Homewood at Plum Creek. She was the wife of David E. Bair, who died July 28, 1969.
Born August 30, 1911 in Carroll Co., MD, she was a daughter of the late Cletus and Ester (Dull) Tawney.

Mrs. Bair was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover. She was employed with Heusner's Cigar, Hanover, then for X. F. Smith's, McSherrystown for 50 years retiring at age 75. Ethel was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star #378 and the Amaranth. She was also a member of the Parkville Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

Her survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Y. Miller, of Hanover; two step sisters; Kathleen Baker, of Hanover, and Geraldine Miller, of East Berlin; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and two great-great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her son, Clifford L. Bair; and two daughters, Betty Lou Soullaird and Jean M. Baugher.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with Rev. Bradley E. Rentzel officiating. The viewing will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.
