From the Portrait and Biographical Record of Kalamazoo, Allegan and Van Buren Counties, Michigan, Chapman Bros., Chicago, 1894, page 256:

George Ford and Anna Lyons were natives of New York. George Ford was born April 13, 1802, and Anna Lyons April 28, 1809, she being of Yankee blood. George was of Scottish antecedents, his father James Ford having been born in Scotland and reared in Ireland.

George Ford was a tailor by trade and engaged at that several years in New York and somewhat in Ohio after his removal thither in 1829. He had settled in the wilderness of Huron County with his wife and two children, and at different times owned three farms there, doing a great deal of improving. He finally traded a farm there for land in Alamo Township, this county, and removed thither in the spring of 1846, with an ox-team, being two weeks on the way, which led through the famous Cottonwood Swamp, near Toledo, where in one place they were six hours going four miles, and then had to pay toll to get further. About this time George was severely injured by the falling of a tree, and was never able to work much after that. He and his son William developed the farm, building first a large tamarack log house, and beginning pioneer life. In 1855, George left his farm in Alamo Township, and settling on a farm in Climax Township, dwelt there until his death, April 1, 1872. He was a staunch Democrat in politics, in which he always manifested a good degree of interest. As one of the pioneers of Kalamazoo County, his memory is held in reverence. His wife Anna died young on February 20, 1834 in Huron County, Ohio. Three of her four children grew to maturity: Betsy, Elma and William.

Note: After the death of Anna, George Ford remarried to Amanda Allen on June 18, 1837. They had several children: Polly, Anna, George Calvin, Hannah and Sarah
