He was born October 24, 1936 in Lorain.
He attended St. Ladislaus Parish School and graduated from Saint Mary High, both in Lorain.
Charnisky served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1975 with the rank of staff sergeant. His assignments were in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, and Germany, Italy, Virginia, San Francisco, Bellefontaine, and the Pentagon.
While serving in Vietnam he received Medal of Honor for bravery and also received the Outstanding Unit Award. His training included electronics, cryptographic repair and code ethics and he served with the 6987th Security Group Division and 664th Radar Squadron.
He earned an associate's degree in economics at the University of San Francisco and also completed a basic private police training course at Case Western Reserve University.
Charnisky was later employed as a security officer at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain.
He enjoyed developing computer programs and keeping pro football statistics. He was known as "Mr. Kind Guy" at his apartment complex in Elyria because he transported neighbors to doctor's appointments and grocery shopping and other errands.
Survivors include his sisters, Mary Ann Price of Swanton, Phyllis "Pepsi" Lachowyn of Lorain and Marlene Reeves of Kingwood, W.Va.,; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by hisn father Steve Charnisky in 1958; his mother, Mary Elizabeth Wilson (nee Bolitz), in 1997; brothers Willam and Ronald; and a sister in infancy.
