Shirley A. Koch, 75, of 1858 Beaver Valley Pike, Strasburg, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at home. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Charles and Mary Klaus Whitmyer. She worked as a secretary for Lancaster County Children and Youth Services; a typesetter for Lancaster Newspapers and was a police dispatcher for the Manheim Township Police Department. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church; a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School; a Veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict; a member of American Legion Post #7, Lancaster where she served as Adjutant from 1974-75 and served as Post Commander from 1975-76. She enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, traveling and playing board games with her family.

She is survived by one son: Charles Hammond and four daughters: Stephanie M. married to Robert Burkett, West Hickory; Shirlynn M. married to Ronald Howe, New Holland; Mary E. married to Byron Fisher, West Hempfield Twp.; and Holly A. married to Thomas Keller, Fulton Co. Fifteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors being accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc. from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.
