Mr. Ruben Ricardo Montiel, Jr. - a native of New Orleans, LA and a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL died Monday, August 03, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Montiel was a graduate of Murphy High School and the U. S. Army-Air Force Officer Candidate School and served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a veteran of World War II and retired as a construction business owner and Regional Vice-President of Academy Insurance Company. He is survived by his wife, Jean Schluter Montiel of Mobile, AL; two sons, Ruben R. (Vickie) Montiel, III of Mobile, AL and David C. (Glenda) Montiel, M.D. of Montgomery, AL; two sisters, Eleanor Corlett and Fannie Bell Beard both of Mobile, AL; nine grandchildren, Barbara (Rocky) Neal, Sandra McLaughlin both of Birmingham, AL, Ruben R. (Kristie) Montiel, IV, Bobby R. Hanna both of Huntsville, AL, Melissa M. (Corey) Potemra of Charleston, SC, Jordan (Richard) McBride, Jean (Matt) Parnell both of Montgomery, AL, Charlotte (Sean) Davis of Washington, D.C., and Judith Ann (Jason) Stubblefield of Miami, FL; eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Veterans of America Program, 1025 Vermont Ave., 7th Floor, Washington, D.C. 20005.
