OBITUARY OF RITA A. BOOK

Rita A. Book, 73, of North Fifth Street, died at 5:30 pm Saturday, October 20, 2001 in Kobacher House, Columbus, Ohio. She was born in Wyandot County on September 12, 1928 to George and Hilda (Brooks) Steif. On August 30, 1946, she married Robert Book in Greenup, Kentucky. He died October 22, 1984.

Surviving are six sons: Thomas, Charles, Gary and Jack Book, all of Upper Sandusky; Dale of Sycamore, OH; and Donald of Nevada, OH; three daughters, Barbara Ruth of Nevada, OH; Diane Elchert of Carey, OH; and Sharon Kindle of Hoytville, Oh; 16 grandchildren and a brother, Gerald Stief of Galion, OH. Preceding her in death were a son, Larry, and a brother, Leroy Stief.

A Homemaker, Mrs. Book worked for the Head Start program for 13 1/2 years. She was a board member on the Community Action Commission for Wyandot county for 23 years and was the local representative for the Salvation Army in Upper Sandusky for 33 years. For 15 years, she ran the park concession for the Softball Association. She was a board member of the Wyandot county Heart Support Group for 18 years and was a former board member of the Wyandot County Unit of the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Book was named Upper Sandusky "Citizen of the Year" in 1986. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church and Eagles Auxiliary 2184, and was a former member of the Upper Sandusky Lioness Club. Her hobbies were latch-hooking and working word search puzzles.

The funeral will be at 11:00 am Wednesday in Trinity Evangelical UMC, Upper Sandusky, the Rev. Derik Hines officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 and 7-9 pm Tuesday at Lucas Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky; and from 10-11 am Wednesday at the Church. Memorials may be made to the local Salvation Army Service Unit, the Trinity Evangelica UMC building fund, or a charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home, PO Box 207, Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
