Ethel Elizabeth Pierce
Ethel Elizabeth Pierce, 72, of St. James died Saturday, June 23, 1990 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla following a lengthy illness.
Ethel was born March 20, 1918 at Paydown in Maries County, a daughter of the late George and Sarah Elizabeth Bunton Hayes.
On March 24, 1937 in Vienna, Ethel was united in marriage to Virgil Pierce and to this union four children were born.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil, of the home; two sons, Grover L. Pierce of Killeen, TX and David L. Pierce of St. James; two daughters, Darlene E. Skyles of Vichy and Betty J. Matters of Edgerton, KS; three brothers, Oscar Hayes of Vienna, Joe Hayes of Belle and Homer Hayes of Gerald; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ethel is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Thurman and James Hayes; one sister, Stella Davis; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held the following Monday at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Low officiating. Pallbearers were Doyle Gray, William Taber, Everett Phoenix, Elmer Gregory, LaVern Parrish and Walter Southard.
Burial was in the Broadway Memorial cemetery in St. James, under the direction of Jones Funeral Service of St. James.
