Retired Farmer Dies at St. Agnes Hospital; Ill for 5 Weeks. Nicholas J. Abler, 82, a retired farmer who made his home at 301 North Park Avenue, died Monday at 12:45 p.m. at St. Agnes hospital after an illness of five weeks.
Born Dec. 26, 1877, in Mt. Calvary, the son of Peter and Margereth Rollman Abler, he moved to Hoven SD with his family as a young man. He was engaged in farming there and in 1921 returned to Mt. Calvary and farmed there until 1936 when he moved to the city.
Mr. Abler married Getrude Koenigs in 1908 in Hoven. She preceded him in death in 1931. In 1936 he married Catherine Koenigs who survives him.
There are also four step-children surviving, Mrs. Archie Bannish, Mrs. Ray Smet, and Melvin and Elmer Koenigs, all of this city. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
A member of St. Mary's Catholic church and of the Holy Name society of that church, he was also a member of St. Anthony's society in Mt. Calvary. Friends may call at the Zacherl Funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be there at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. at St. Mary's church. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery, Mt. Calvary.
