Mary, 72, mother of two Idaho Falls school teachers, and well known former resident of Carey, died Wenesday, July 28, 1954 at a Idaho Falls hospital. She had been making her home with a daughter, Bernice Bateman.

Mary was born August 9, 1881, at Spanish Fork, Utah, a daughter of Doctor Turrel Atwood and Mary Palfreyman Atwood. She was married September 29, 1899, to Joseph Hyrum Patterson in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They resided in Utah until 1909 when they moved to Carey where they took up a homestead. Active in the community and the Carey LDS Ward, she served as a teacher in the Sunday School, in the Relief Society Presidency and on the board of the Blaine Stake Relief Society. In 1941 the family moved to Filer where they operated a tourist court until 1947 when they returned to Carey where they built a home. Joseph died March 19, 1948. Since then she has lived at Filer, Carey and Idaho Falls.

Three sons, Joseph Paul, Ronald and Randall also proceeded her in death.

Survivors include four sons and two daughters; Leslie T Patterson, Roy, Utah; Arthur W Patterson, Twin Falls; David Leland Patterson, Altadena, California; Francis A Patterson, Idaho Falls; Mary McGuire, Salt Lake City; Bernice Agnes Bateman, Idaho Falls; by brothers and sisters, Lula Hannah Beck, Spanish Fork, Utah; Sarah Edna Cammack, McCammon; William Atwood, Blackfoot; Ray Atwood, Salt Lake City; Ivan Atwood, Pingree; Melvin Atwood, Spanish Fork, Utah; by 16 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
