BLANKENSHIP, Fulton Virgil, 91, of Pearisburg, Va., passed away at his home, Saturday, November 15, 2003. Mr. Blankenship was born on April 25, 1912, in Bland County, Va., and was a son of the late Fulton and Georgia Tracy Blankenship. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Wyrick. Mr. Blankenship was an Army veteran having worked on the Panama Canal as a Blacksmith and was a veteran of WWII. He was a lifelong resident of Pearisburg, a retired employee of the Celanese Corp. in Narrows, ran Blankenship T.V. Service, owned the first black and white T.V. in Giles County, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg. Mr. Blankenship is survived by three sons, Virgil J. Blankenship of Victoria, Texas, Bobby Blankenship of Clyde, N.C., Billy Blankenship of Salem, Va.; four daughters, Flora Pyles of Prince George, Shirley Shell of Prince George, Ruby Wellington of Hopewell, Margie Balthis of Longmont, Colo.; one sister, Alice Thompson of Rocky Mount; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 22, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg with the Dr. Tony Collins and Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Giles Rescue Squad.
