NORTONVILLE -- Hazel M. Hoffman Sowles, 95, Nortonville, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at a Nortonville nursing home.

She was born Dec. 1, 1903, in Valley Falls, to Carl and Mary Miller McCoy, and attended Ellerman Grade School in Jefferson County.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Bible study group at the church, Mount Zion Chapter No. 284 of Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, the auxiliary to the American Legion, Flower Club and Get Together Club, all in Nortonville. She was a former member of the Center School board.

She married William Hoffman Aug. 23, 1920. He died March 6, 1946. She married Clyde Sowles Oct. 2, 1953. He died in October 1989.

Survivors include sons, Mac Hoffman, Effingham, Bill Hoffman, Gardner, and John "Jack" Hoffman, Nortonville; daughters, Dorothy Jo Hagen, Flower Mound, Texas, and Rosemary Cummings, West Des Moines, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and five great- great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Nortonville.

Private burial will be in Nortonville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Nortonville, 66060. O'Trimble Funeral Home in Nortonville is in charge of arrangements.
