AN OBITUARY OF E. CORNELIUS SCOTT

E. Cornelius Scott died on Wednesday, Feb. 9th at 6 p. m. at the Brokaw hospital, Normal, Ill., after a few days' illness. He had been in poor health for some months, but a fall on the ice a few days before his death caused an overlapping of the colon which was attended with intense suffering and hastened his death.

He was born in Washington, Pa., June 30, 1837, and came to Washington, Ill., with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James P. Scott, in April 1838. He spent his early days on his father's farm a few miles southeast of Washington and carried on the farm after the death of his parents. Faithful to the memory of a young lady of Peoria who died during their engagement, he never married, but lived a life of devotion to his sisters. In 1887 he removed to Normal, where the remainder of his days were spent.

His parents were prominent and honored members of this community, distinguished for the earnestness with which they espoused and the tenacity with which they adheared [sic] to what they deemed to be the cause of righteousness, and he honored his father and mother by his sympathy with their convictions. He united with the Presbyterian church when he was a young man and remained true to his profession. He was a dutiful son, an affectionate brother, and a kind neighbor, always ready to help a friend in time of need.

His remains were brought here for interment, the burial service being performed by Rev. I. A. Cornelision, D. D., an old friend of the family.
