Asbury S. Prather, for many years a resident of Morton Mills vicinity, died in Morton Mills on Saturday at 1:00 pm from a heart condition.

Mr. Prather was born in Indiana on 11 March 1848 and was 76 years old at his death. He and his wife celebrated their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary in March of last year. Their children are: son John M. of Read[sic] Oak and son Walter B. and daughter Mrs. Fletcher Gourley of Morton Mills. The wife survives.

Mr. Prather came to Montgomery County with his parents when he was 7 years old and lived near Elliott, soon afterward going to the Morton Mills vicinity where he lived the rest of his life. He was a life-long Methodist Church member.

Interment was in the Morton Mills cemetery. Pall bearers, all nephews and grandsons of Mr. Prather were Harold Ziegler, Harold Hatfield, Harold Hall, Ralph and Floyd Gourley, Geo. W. and Quincy Dunn, and Fred Focht.

Coming a distance for the funeral were Mrs. Ollie Hall, Ottumwa, Ia.; Mr. & Mrs. Harold Ziegler, Anita, Ia.; Mrs. Mary E. Weeks & nephew, Harold Hatfield, Macksburg, Ia.; Mr. & Mrs. A.J. Seefeldt, Wm. Hobson & J.B. Graves, Red Oak, Ia.
