Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until August 19, 1944, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Son of Roy T. Speary and Selina Millington Speary.

Eugene, who resided at 6 Main Street, Greenville, Delaware served as a Seaman First Class on the S.S. J. Pinkney Henderson, U.S. Navy during World War II.

Eugene was "Lost At Sea" when the Henderson collided with the merchant ship S.S. J. H. Seinor in the North Atlantic during the war.

He had served in the Navy for four months at the time of his death.
