Erastus Cover was born in Frederick County, Maryland, July 12, 1831. Died January 2, 1908, thus making him 76 years, 6 months and 11 days old.
He moved with his parents to Upper Sandusky, Wyandott County, Ohio, when he was four years old. He grew to manhood there, he having spent 14 years with his father, Joseph Cover on the old Wyandott Indian Mission farm and went a few years to school with Wyandott Indians and was …. the Wyandott Indiana left then to Wyandott, Kan.
He was married to Lovina M. Lafferty, …..17, 1853 and a few years later moved to McComb, Ill, moved with his family to Cameron, Mo., where he resided until he came to Wyoming on a visit during the summer of 1888, and in 1890 he brought his widowed daughter, Mrs. H.C. Priegel now Mrs. D.J. Wood, here for her health. She regained her health and in 1892 Mr. Cover moved to Wyoming where he has since resided spending the summer for the past 10 years at Thermopolis, Wyo., and the winters at Sheridan, Wyo. He served his country in the 144th Cavalry, Company A, during the civil war, was honorably discharged and has drawn a pension since 1890 for disabilities caused by the loss of his right arm in the cylinder of a threshing machine at Kidder, Mo., 38 years ago.
He and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their ranch at Big Horn, Wyo. in 1903. Had he lived 15 days longer, he would have been married 55 years.
Thirteen children were born to this union. Seven of whom are living. The oldest son, Leroy Cover and family live at Sisters, Ore. Marion and family, H.S. Cover and family and his single brother, George, at Thermopolis, Wyo. and the three daughters living, Mrs. D. J. Wood and Mrs. C. R. Colman at Sheridan and the single daughter, Miss Essie at home.
He was a loving husband and father, was not happy unless he was with the children and they with him. He leaves a faithful wife, seven children, 23 grandchildren and three great grandchildren to mourn his loss. He also raised Johnnie Cover of Big Horn, Wyo., and was caring for a grandson, Robert Boyd at the time of his death, laid to rest at Mount Hope, followed by many relatives and friends.
Mrs. Marion R passed away at Thermopolis on New Years day, thus making a double loss to the family."
