Guri Asbjørnsdatter TONSTAD was born near the Steinberg in Lund municipality, Rogaland county, Norway, on November 11, 1832. She was the daughter of Asbjørn D.Y. Erikson VIRAK and Marta Salvesdatter STEINBERG. Although she never married, she had one child by Ole Tobias Larsson:

1) Oline Tobine Olsdatter TONSTAD, born June 18, 1862, and died July 4, 1931

Guri Asbjørnsdatter TONSTAD died at Tonstad, in Sirdal, Vest-Agder county, date unknown.

Berta Øglend relates that her grandmother, Guri, was forbidden by her brother to marry Ole Tobias Larsson RAMSLI, from Mjaasund, even though they had a daughter together, Oline Tobine Olsdatter TONSTAD. No other children were born to Guri. Although they were not married, Guri and Ole are linked at this site, due to the fact that they had a daughter together.

Guri Asbjørnsdatter TONSTAD died on December 20, 1897, in Josdal, Sirdal municipality, Vest-Agder County, Norway.

Guri's birth is documented in the Lund/Lund Parish register (official), Number A5, Birth and baptism records, covering the years 1815-1833, page 95, entry no. 28. The register is housed in the Regional State Archives of Stavanger. Her baptism took place in her parents' home, rather than in the church.
Her death is documented in Vest-Agder's Sirdal/Tonstad Parish Register copy, Number B4, 1895-1916, page 91, entry no. 10 among the women. Her death is recorded on the same page of the parish register as that of her mother, Martha Salvesdatter, who died only six weeks earlier. Guri is identified in this register as "Ugift Guri Asbjørnsdatter, fattiglem", meaning "unmarried Guri Asbjørnsdatter, pauper", indicating that Guri was very poor. Paupers had to rely on the charity of family and friends, often having to move from house to house for various lengths of time. Guri's death occurred in Josdal, perhaps at the home of her daughter, Oline.
Further documentation of her death is found in a source that is not yet available on the Internet. Aileen Runde, Archival consultant at the Regional State Archives of Stavanger, provided this information: "I have cross referenced this with the records of Flekkefjord sorenskriveri (magistrate) and found the death in 1897 of Guri Asbjørnsdatter Tonstad, born 1832.
