John Alvin Baker, born October 13, 1898 in Madison County, GA, died June 17, 1978, in Danielsville, Madison County, GA. He was the second son of John Thomas Baker and Mary Louiza Bullock. He had two brothers, Rev. Richard Thomas Baker, husband of Martha Hunter (Hickman) Baker, and Charles H. Baker, and one sister, Julia (Baker) Harris, wife of William Melvin Harris.

He married Martha Evelyn Alexander, who was a teacher in NC, on July 3, 1936, in Madison County, GA.

They were parents of two daughters, Mary Etta Baker, who died in infancy in 1943, and Martha Ann (Baker) Doxey, born October 2, 1944, first wife of George A. Doxey, Jr. Ann survived her father, but she and one of her sons, James Alexander Doxey, died March 11, 1985, in a private plane crash over Charleston, WV. Two sons, John A. Doxey and William "Will" David Doxey and her husband, George A. Doxey, Jr., survived the crash.

John Alvin and his wife, Evelyn, served as the postmaster and postmistress of Danielsville, Madison County, GA, for many years.
