Ethel M. Johnson died peacefully at the age of 111 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio on July 29, 2009. Johnson, a native of Wharton, Ohio was the 32nd oldest person in the world and the 15th oldest person living in the United States, according to Gerontology Research Group's Web site. She was born Sept. 28, 1897 in Hancock Co., OH to the late William and Amanda (Grady) Kauble. She married Jesse M. Bash on Mar. 25, 1919, he preceded her in death on May 5, 1923, after 4 short years of marriage. She then married Ordell Johnson on Dec. 24, 1929, he died Mar. 3, 1951. She never had any children nor remarried after her second husband died. She graduated from Wharton High School in 1916 and from Ohio Northern University with a degree in teaching.
