Lost at sea aboard US Submarine Grayling. Volunteered for submarine school in 1937 while stationed at San Diego.
Also served aboard the USS Narwhal. Trained on subs at New London, CT (1939) and Pearl Harbor (1940, 1941). Never married. 1930 Benton Co AR census has him age 11, born in MO.
