Marvin Blonger was a Montana mine superintendent. Born in Vermont, the youngest of six brothers, and raised in Shullsburg, Wisconsin, he worked for a time in Leadville, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, Utah, before settling in Philipsburg, Montana. He and his wife, Mary, had four children: Abbie (Kervin), Willie (who died in infancy), Edward, and Ollie (Buick).

One of Marvin's brothers, Lou Blonger, became notorious as the king of Denver's underworld until his arrest in 1922.
