"Wendy and John,

I have attached a image from the book Names in Stone which covers every cemetery in Frederick county I hope this information from the last survey in approx 1966 and revised with an additional printing in 1972.

There are no Hinckels listed in the book anywhere in the county, 1 Hinckley in Popular Springs and 4 Hinkel/Hinkle in Rocky Springs.

I have photographed all but one stone that remains behind the Evangelical Lutheran Church and others have posted pictures of all that exist on Find a Grave.

This means that there are unfortunately no other stones to be found except the four mentioned in the article that are listed as being at Mount Olivet. I have a list of these relocated graves but they do not accurately list where they came from nor is the list complete as some
were illegible when relocated.

I tried to post this image on the Cemetery page on FaG but they refused it as it is copyrighted material.

"I have heard and read alot of conflicting stories about the early graves that were moved.

Some records insist all the graves were removed from the church yard, some say only those that were in the area of the building expansion.

The best record would be that of the church, but it too has some doubts because of the remaining headstones.

Then the cemetery that all these were transferred to was itself transferred to Mount Olivet.

That all of those graves were moved is 99.99% certain as the entire area was dug about 12 feet deep during construction of the former and existing buildings there since that time.

The Mt. Olivet records of the section where most were moved to I have are photo copies of the actual cemetery card file.

These may be the only copy outside the cemetery as I had to beg and offer to help them copy them) I haven't had time to organize them into any order and they are not themselves in any order.

As the graves were moved they just kept filling in the next line on these 3x5 and 5X7 index cards.

The closest thing to being organized is the fact that they each contain the record of the plots and that is fairly consistent in order following through the section.

To find a person if listed at this point means to read through 30 some cards and then if found use that card to go try to find the others around to locate the grave and maybe a stone.

The only thing I find listed is an Amelia Henkle that was transferred from the Presbyterian Church in 1825
Section NN Lot 131 Grave 9.

"I am sorry to tell you that there are only 44 surviving tombstones and all have been posted to Find A Grave already. Three were so worn that no imprint at all was visible or imprinted enough to make a tracing either.
I was once told that when they did the church additions, the tombstones were buried with the grave and the addition was built over them.

The tombstones that remain are not where the people are buried, but are lined up along walls.

The up side to this is that the minister recorded most of these early burials with notations regarding the families. These have been published. Without that, we would have not even had a recording of them.
