THOMAS ROOT IS PROBABLY NOT BURIED HERE, BUT HIS NAME IS ON THE FOUNDERS MONUMENT AS AN ORIGINAL PROPRIETOR OF HARTFORD. He was an early member of the First Church of Hartford, his home lot being on the east side of the road to the Cow Pasture (north Main Street). He was a weaver & served in the Pequot Indian War. About 1654, he removed to Northampton, Mass. where he was one of the seven first settlers.
