Harrison Waskom was the son of Joseph Waskom Sr.(1792-1862) and Sarah Goodnight (Young) Waskom(1804-1879).

It is interesting to note that Sarah (Young) Waskom's parents, Jacob and Rachel (Goodnight) Young were the great-grandparents of President Harry S. Truman. Harrison was a first cousin, once-removed to President Truman.

Harrison Waskom was born October 7, 1839 in Grassy Fork Township, Jackson County, Indiana.

Harry married Nancy Roney/Rooney October 27, 1867 in Jackson County, Indiana. To this union were born four children;

Zella Ann (Waskom) Wright b 11-22-1868
Azariah Waskom b 3-3-1870
Ed Waskom b 9-22-1872
Sallie (Waskom) Brewer b 4-5-1878

Harrison's wife, Nancy died April 15, 1880. Harrison was left with four young children.

Harrison married Annie Slade on March 1, 1891. To this union were born two children;

Pearl (Waskom) Summers b 4-6-1892
Mark Waskom b 9-25-1895

Harrison enlisted in the Union Army as a Private on August 29, 1861. He mustered out on September 24, 1864 as a 1st Sergeant. Harry first served in the 39th Indiana, Company K. Towards the end of the war, he was with the 8th Cavalry. He fought at the notorious battles of Shiloh and Chickamauga. On April 7, 1862 at Shiloh, Harry was struck by a confederate bullet in his right ankle. This wound stayed with him for his remaining years.

Harry was an Elder at the Driftwood Christian Church for several years.

My relationship is that Harrison was my paternal ggg-grandfather.
