DAVIS
Racheal Hay Evans was born April 11, 1924 in Newton, to John Wells Evans and Rosanna Ida Hay. She departed this life July 14, 1991, at Des Moines General Hospital in Des Moines.
She attended school in Newton. Racheal married Darl Edward Sleeth on Dec. 5, 1941. To this union one son, Dwayne Edward, was born.
On Nov. 3, 1946, she married Lloyd Harding Davis. Lloyd adopted Dwayne and to this union two children were born, Sheryl Ann and Lloyd Allen (Buddy).
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Russell.
Racheal and Lloyd operated a service station in Russell until his death in 1970. She worked for Dr. Gartin until his retirement. Then she was a secretary for South Central Insurance Association until poor health forced her to retire. She enjoyed creating articles of love for her family and friends. She enjoyed helping with her grandchildren.
She was stricken with a stroke in July 1985. She then made her home at the Chariton Manor, where she made many friends among staff and residents.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Sue Galuska and Juanita Evans and her husband of 34 years.
Surviving are son Dwayne and wife Lori, of Ava, Mo., son Lloyd (Buddy) and wife June of Russell, daughter Sheryl and husband Gerald Gwinn of Chariton, nine grandchilren, Harold Davis and wife Marica and Sherry Lynn Davis, both of Ava, Mo., Kenneth and Tony Gwinn, of Chariton, Darwin Gwinn of Charleston, S.C., Penny and husband Bill McGee of Chariton, Mary Ann Racheal Davis and Ben Tupper of Russell; two great-grandchildren Brooke Davis of Ava, Mo., and Aaron McGee of Chariton; brothers George Wayne Evans of the Chariton Manor and Fred Evans and wife Tina of Ben Franklin, Texas; brother-in-law John Galuska of Norfolk, Va., and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 1991, at the Fielding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Julie McCullough and the Rev. Wauneita McConnell officiating. Serving as bearers were Larry Hawkins, Mark Hawkins, Larry Knust, Jerry Dillman, David Davis and Jim Reynolds. Interment was in the Russell Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Russell Community Center or the Chariton Public Library.
